Travelin' from coast to coast
I'm just your newest American Ghost.
I miss you so much,
it's hard to keep in touch
I'm just your newest American Ghost.
Left Pennsylvania in the dust
My mind was screaming, "California or Bust!"
It was time to run the risk-
jump the gun-
make a fuss-
if you sit too long you might start to rust.
Now the lady who stands beside me,
blue-green eyes: deep, dark, and lovely.
With a laugh that could shake the value out of money,
and lips...sweeter than barrel of honey.
Cut straight through to West Virginia.
Zig-Zagged our way to Old Kentucky.
We raised some hell in the hotel,
drinkin' Wild Turkey and Gettin' Lucky.
On and On to Illinois...
Wrestled with pain and danced for joy.
Most of the time I didn't know just how to feel,
Is this a dream or is it real?
You might not believe how much there is to see...
Now the Great Plains are as flat as pancakes...
blue-berry skys and clouds of whip cream.
With an old guitar and a never-ending cup of coffee,
I think I might survive Eternity.
But lets not jump to far ahead,
and lets not fall to far behind.
Lets stay right here in these Big Rock Candy Mountains
with the best friends you could ever find.
You might not believe how much there is to see...
